The Government of Morocco has decided to strengthen the lockdown measures in Tangiers – Asilah and Fez provinces as of Wednesday 05 August at 20h00 local time to combat the spread of Covid-19. Travel to and from these cities necessitates a special permit delivered by local authorities. (Maghreb Arab Press Agency –MAP press release)

Rabat – Taking into consideration the increasing number of Covid-19 contaminations and recorded deaths in recent days, in order to preserve the health and integrity of citizens, the government has decided to implement, as of Wednesday 05 August 2020 at 8 p.m., a series of preventive measures in the provinces of Tanger-Assilah and Fez. In a statement, the government explained that these measures would be applied as follows:

1. At city level (Tangiers and Fez):

- The necessity to hold an exceptional permission to move to and from Tangiers and Fez

- Prohibition of all gatherings

- All shops, supermarkets and cafes have to shut down at 10 pm.

- Restaurants will close at 11pm

- Prohibition of access to beaches and public parks

 - Gymnasiums and sports fields will remain closed.

 - Public transport capacity reduced to 50%.

2. Measures taken in neighbourhoods where the pandemic has spread in Tangiers and Fez:

- Access routes to the neighbourhoods will see the set-up of security checkpoints

- Mobility and access to and out of the neighbourhoods affected by the measures will be conditional on holding special mobility permits issued by local authorities

- Shops, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants will close at 8 p.m.

- Community (traditional) markets will close at 4pm.

- Public baths (hammams) and beauty salons will remain closed.

In its statement, the government, while urging citizens to respect the announced preventive measures with commitment and responsibility, and adhere to national efforts to stem the spread of Covid-19, insists that rigorous surveillance protocols will be activated against any individual who violates existing regulations, including the mandatory wearing of the protective mask and respect for physical distancing in public spaces.
